Beginning Clay I - Session 5

Learn to make your own pottery! In this 6-week class, learn hand-building basic forms, wheel-throwing, and use of studio equipment. Instruction is provided, but students work independently on their own projects. Included are clay, glazing, and firing. Shelf space is provided for your clay, tools, and pieces in progress. Please bring your own basic tools, hand towel, and apron. Make this adorable Japanese-style lantern for your porch or patio!
We'll make this lantern using pinch, coil, and slab techniques. First, we'll make a pinch pot base, add several coils to build it up, and then make a lid using slabs of clay. We'll make the base using slab, as well. We will glaze it for you and it will be fired in a kiln and be ready for pick up in about 2 weeks.

At the dawn of humanity, one tribe of cave-people survives the many trials of prehistoric life under the wise leadership of Jemilla, The Peacemaker. Jemilla taught her people to express themselves, rather than bashing each others' heads with rocks and eating each others' babies. But one member of the tribe doesn't seem to fit in: Zazzalil. She's always trying to invent things to make life easier… for herself. While out hatching her latest scheme, Zazzalil stumbles upon the most important discovery in history. One that will pit her tribe against wooly mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and change the world forever. She'll travel from omega to alpha, and become… the Firebringer!
