7 things to do in Danville's River District this July 4th Weekend

There is no shortage of fun summer activities in the River District over the 4th of July weekend.  Check out some of the happenings below, and be sure to download the River District App: Distrx to find the best places to eat, drink, and shop this weekend. 

Wanderlove: A Stitch In Time:  Be sure to take a walk on the Riverwalk, and visit the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History pop up gallery at 530 Craghead Street to check out their latest project and installation, a community led yarnbombing project!  Learn more at: https://www.danvillemuseum.org/ and on the River District App: Distrx.

Music at the Market: Thursday, July 1: Come enjoy some classic salsa and Latin jazz from the band West End Mambo www.westendmambo.com All shows start at 7 p.m. Free Admission. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Visitors are encouraged to visit the downtown restaurants and stores before or after the concert. If you need to find a good place to eat or sip, download the River District App: Distrx to find all the downtown Danville dining options.  In case of rain, the concert will be moved inside the Community Market located at 629 Craghead Street.

Danville Science Center: Wednesday, June 30th - Sunday, July 4th: The Danville Science Center has exhibits and activities for the whole family. The Science Center is open Wednesday through Saturday, 9:30 am - 5:00 pm, and Sunday, 11:30 am - 5:00 pm.  Be sure to check out the schedule of activities in the JT Minnie Maude Creativity Lab, the movies and planetarium features in the Digital Dome, and Tours of the Butterfly Station and Garden.  For all the details visit: www.dsc.smv.org

Danville Community Market: Saturday, July 3rd:  The Farmer's Market at the Danville Community Market (629 Craghead Street) is every Saturday from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm, May through October.  The Market is also open on Wednesdays in July and August from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  The market has a wide variety of local agricultural products such as vegetables, meats, plants, honey, baked goods, jams and jellies, locally roasted coffee, wine, crafts and much more! 

Riverwalk Bike Rentals:  Explore downtown and the Riverwalk by bicycle this weekend. Bikes are located in the River District near the Community Market (629 Craghead).  The bike rental costs $3 per hour and can be unlocked and paid for using the Motavic App in the Google Play, or Apple App stores.

Danville Symphony Orchestra, The Music of America: Sunday, July 4th: Enjoy a lively 4th of July Concert at the Carrington Pavilion.  Doors open at 6:00pm and the first note will be at 7:40 pm.  Bring some lawn chairs, a blanket, snacks, and the whole family. 

Danville City Fireworks: Sunday, July 4th: The City of Danville's 4th of July Fireworks Celebration will begin around 9:15 pm, directly after the orchestra concert.  Enjoy the summer evening and the celebration. For details visit:  https://www.danville-va.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=4738
